Overall Objective
The subject of the contract is to contribute to rabies eradication in Albania and Wester Balkans. The contractor should ensure the successful implementation of three vaccination campaigns implemented through a separated supply contract. In addition the national capacities on active and passive surveillance are expected to be increased.
Summary of the Project
Rabies was sporadically detected in Albania with the last registered case occurred in the Northeast region of Albania in 2014 in a fox. The rabies eradication in Albania has been continuously supported by EU through IPA programmes. From 2014, thirteen vaccination campaigns have been completed successfully. This support continues with implementation of 3 consecutive campaign during 2022 – 2023.
Activities
The main activities are as follows:
- Vaccination monitoring in three stages per each campaign (pre-vaccination phase); vaccination phase; post vaccination phase.
- Establishment of passive and active surveillance in rabies in cooperation with the beneficiary institutions
Expected Results
- The ORV vaccination is ensured and confirmed by the Contractor that is carried out in accordance with the technical requirements and proved by collected and analysed evidence through on-spot assessment of the performance and quality,
- The Albanian veterinary service is trained and able to conduct passive and active surveillance on rabies in line with the procedures.
