Overall Objective

The project’s overall objective is to enable local environmental civil society organisations to impact environmental policies and performances at the local level in line with the EU accession requirements, through enabling them to carry out evidence-based policy and advocacy influencing the urban environmental protection realm.

Summary of the Project

The project aimed to create an alternative and inclusive platform for monitoring air quality and noise pollution and for doing ecosystem-evaluation of urban greenery, in order to influence and better orient the local governance agenda with evidence-based data. A qualitative urban environment for all was our goal.

Activities

  • Revision of the national strategic documents and legislative framework
  • Mobilisation of the debate and input from key actors on air, noise and urban greenery monitoring
  • Elaboration and dissemination of the Alternative Local Monitoring Methodology
  • Development and publication of the Open Source Web Base Platform
  • Piloting and implementing the monitoring methodology practices
  • Development of periodic reporting and dedicated articles with key findings from monitoring results
  • Contributing to the EU Country Specific Report
  • Supporting local civil society organisations through a sub-grantee scheme
  • Coaching and implementing Alternative Local Monitoring Methodolog for the selected municipalities
  • Developing and sharing of key findings in social and mass media through brief reports and infographics
  • Organising 3 national and local campaigns
  • Annual National Conference
  • Participating dynamically in local and regional events related to urban environment, air, noise and urban greenery

Expected Results

  • An alternative platform for monitoring air and noise pollution and urban greenery is developed and piloted in one representative municipality and is replicated in two other municipalities
  • Monitoring data and tailored technical support are used by civil society organisations to advocate for improved local policy-making and for better media coverage that can increase public awareness
