Overall Objective
To increase communication, awareness, and engagement of communities and the private sector in circular economy, green growth, regional waste management, and the protection of nature and biodiversity in Albania.
Summary of the Project
This technical assistance project supports Albania’s alignment with EU environmental standards by raising awareness and promoting behavioural change in waste management, circular economy, and biodiversity protection. It includes national and regional campaigns, surveys, and stakeholder engagement activities.
Activities
- National and regional surveys on public and private sector awareness;
- Focus groups with private sector stakeholders;
- Communication and information campaigns on circular economy, waste management, and biodiversity and environment protection;
- Communication support for EU Delegation activities in the domains of circular economy, waste management, biodiversity and environment protection;
- Press trips and media engagement.
Results
- Increased awareness and willingness of private sector in Albania to adopt circular economy and green growth measures
- Increased awareness among Albanians about the importance of proper disposal of waste, recycling and waste management, including the importance of implementing an integrated waste management system in line with EU standards
- Increased awareness among Albanians about the importance of nature and biodiversity protection in Albania, with a special focus on protected areas and the importance of having NATURA 2000 sites in Albania;
- Increased awareness among Albanians on the EU support to environment related reforms and EU’s development programmes in Albania, and the benefits of aligning the Albanian legislation with the EU’s environmental acquis.
